C-SCOPE
Electronics, Computing, Miscellaneous...

You've stumbled onto my tiny little web site that contains information of various kinds, technical, some hardware, some software. It serves no other purpose than to share my experience with whoever might be interested. No guarantees, no service, no support... (Although you could try sending me an e-mail, I might have a few minutes to spare somewhere and answer some questions.)

Most of the programming and developing stuff has been done for my various employers, some of it is real hobby. Unfortunately there's not much hobby time left besides my work, and I always wonder how it is possible that there are people that spend their developer capabilities to do utterly useless things.

To see what I mean, check this link: http://www.planetnz.com/palmheads/tandy.php. Why would anyone in the world spend time to link an ancient computer to his X-Box ?
Or this one: www3.uark.edu/bkst/pumpkin/, which speaks for itself.
Fortunately there are also people around that put their knowledge and experience to good use. Like the developers of:
OpenOffice which is my favorite office suite. And honestly I really don't know why anyone would still be using any Microsoft Office product.
It's got everything you would expect from an office suite, and even more, at an unbeatable price (Yes, it's free..). In fact I started using it instead of Microsoft office 2000 because I had so much trouble with writing manuals that contained a lot of pictures. If you place more than 10 images in an MS Word document, and you also want them to be in a specific place, the whole layout soon becomes a nightmare. (Now don't think I dislike MocorSoft in general, see my opinion on the Microsoft / 'Other OS' battle here here) OpenOffice writer is much better at that. Also I saved hundreds of megabytes on my harddisk by just converting all my MS Word documents into the XML based OpenOffice format.

Another free program that stands out. This is still the software of choice for me to create my webpages. I've tried several others through the years, but somehow this is the best solution for me. It's not a real WYSIWYG editor, but it has a very good preview that also processes all JavaScript items.
For a long time it seemed that the development of this program would stop at the final release of version 2.0, but recently the Beta of the new 2006 version was released, and I'm seriously thinking of getting it. I suppose the final version will have to be purchased, but that will probably be worth it. Meanwhile the free 2000 version is still available, so get it and try it.
